What is a tangram, in short?
A tangram is a classic Chinese puzzle made of seven geometric wooden pieces: five triangles, a square, and a parallelogram. When assembled correctly, they form a perfect square. But the magic is only just beginning: by rearranging all seven pieces (without overlapping them), you can create hundreds of figures—animals, boats, people, or houses.
No screens, no batteries, and no complicated rules. Just a few wooden pieces and a lot of imagination.
Why is it the perfect game for children (6+ years)?
Between the ages of 6 and 12, children are rapidly developing their spatial and logical thinking. The tangram nurtures this curiosity through direct, hands-on play:
-
Logical and strategic thinking: The child learns to break down a large image into simple shapes.
-
Concentration and patience: A figure doesn't always work out on the first try, and repeated attempts build perseverance.
-
Shape recognition: Practice rotating and fitting together triangles and quadrilaterals.
-
Creativity: After solving the patterns in the book, they can move on to their own creations.
How to play together: 4 simple steps
-
Explore the pieces: Let the child touch the beechwood pieces and name the shapes.
-
Start with a simple figure: Choose a challenge and place the first piece as a starting point.
-
Guide, don't impose: If a piece doesn't fit, ask: “What if you turn it a little?” instead of placing it yourself.
-
Celebrate the success: Repeat the solved figure to build self-confidence.
